As soon as I saw the challenge prompt for today was “starry night”, I immediately thought of Van Gogh’s masterpiece by the same name. Although I’ve never attempted it before, I decided to dive in and try my hand at trying to do my own referential piece based on Van Gogh’s painting. He had a canvas, brushes, and paint… I had a sketchbook and Sharpies.

This was really fun to create. I looked at the challenge prompt last night and then thought about it as I was falling asleep. Today when I woke up, I knew sort of how I wanted it to look. I turned on the movie Serendipity on Netflix, cracked open my sketchpad, and started in. The end result is even cooler than what I had envisioned in my mind.

For fun, I’m trying to hone my hand-lettering skills by using the prompts in a lettering exercise called the #DNDchallenge on Instagram springboarded by Dawn Nicole Designs. [I’m a latecomer for the month but better late than never, right?.] I thought I’d play with putting my hand-lettering on one of my photos from the garden this week.
Since I’ve got the song “Favorite Things” from Sound of Music playing in my head right now, I think everyone should.
